Peakslab is an offline dictionary and knowledge searching web app framework made to be small, lightweight, intuitive, and fast.
What does Peakslab mean? Well it's two words, peak and slab which is the romanization of ពាក្យ and ស្លាប់. Which mean word and dead respectively. Ok, but why? Well, there's a lot of different layers to the meaning. Let's enumerate:
- Peak means word referring to dictionary entries.
- Slab means dead which refers to the fact that this is just a dictionary and your language ability is not what defines you but instead it is the holy spirit which should define you.
- So Peakslab as a compound refers to the law, the ten commandments, thus the imagery in the logo.
2 Corinthians 3:2-8 ULB You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, known and read by all people. You show that you are a letter from Christ, delivered by us. It was written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God. It was not written on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts. And this is the confidence that we have through Christ before God. We are not competent in ourselves to claim anything as coming from us. Instead, our competence is from God. It is God who made us able to be servants of a new covenant. This is a covenant not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. Now the service that produced death—engraved in letters on stones—came in such glory that the people of Israel could not look directly at Moses' face. This is because of the glory of his face, a glory that was fading. How much more glorious will be the service that the Spirit does?
- Peak means mountain or the best in English. This refers to mount Sinai, but also to the goal of this project which is to be the best source of dictionary data in a web app.
- Likewise Slab means slab of stone going along with the ten commandments motif. But slab can also refer to the assortment of different dictionaries that are bundled together. (Though actually we put binary data in .slab files and text data in .peak files)
- Conveniently the first letter in ពាក្យ perfectly outlines the shape of the ten commandments. And the first letter in ស្លាប់ works great for the cracks in the ten commandments after Moses broke the tablets because he was angry with the people for building the golden calf.
